What a class today!

First we watched the movies everybody made for this class, what was really amuzing, and in the second part of the we talked about
"genre study
powerful language/understanding
common characteristics between one video and another"

which was really informative and intresting. It could have almost been a class in philosophy as even Aristotele's name felt.

We discussed the term of "Diegesis".

E.g music movements change over time like Hip Hop did.

Apart from that how lightening, camera, placement, music and narrative can be used to tell a story in an absolute different way. Here Phil named a good example with the music video Évi and I did about the Yellow Submarine.


Non diegetic is, coming back to the Hip Hop example the girls dancing half naked around the rapper. As they have no direct purpose for the video.

Diegetic against that is e.g. the movement of a rapper, the symbols he's wearing (Gold rings, Dollar necklace, baggy pants.

Internal diegetic is for example Sex Pistols song "Anarchy in the UK", where there is no meaning behind the song but actually only what they are trying to tell the audience.

So summarizing I must say that this class was awesome!

Yesterday we had our first lesson in Music Video Production.

At the beginning we had a guest who gave us 6 so called Pro Cams. Looked like a toy for children and a shock proven case. But the thing about them is: You can use them underwater. That fact made this little item very attractive for all of us.

So for the first half we were told how this product works, what to do, and asked questions, waiting till the batteries got charged.

During the second half we watched several clipping from the "Rock'n'Roll" History. Which Phil from time to time interrupted in order to make us focus on things which are important and how music video production had changed.

At the end we got into groups and our taks was to create a music video of a song with the Pro Cam. Sounds really interesting.
